A review of the development status of PTFE in China

PTFE has excellent performance and can be used for a long time at -180~260ºC. Due to its excellent high and low temperature resistance and chemical stability, good electrical insulation properties, non-adhesion, weather resistance, flame retardancy and good self-lubricating properties, PTFE has been widely used in chemical, petroleum, textile, Electronic and electrical, medical, mechanical, aerospace and other fields have become indispensable materials in the above application fields.

After the rapid development of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", my country has become a big country in the production and consumption of PTFE. The advantages of domestic PTFE products are more and more obvious, and the import substitution effect is significant.

1. China's PTFE production capacity and output continue to rise

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, China's PTFE production capacity, output and load rate continued to grow.

(1) From 2016 to 2021, China's PTFE production capacity will fluctuate and grow (see Figure 1-1), with a compound growth rate of 10.14%; in 2021, China's PTFE production capacity will reach 188,000 tons/year (excluding foreign companies), a year-on-year increase An increase of 24.83%, accounting for 60.84% of the global polytetrafluoroethylene production capacity (data source: "Fluorosilicone Materials" "How much do you know about the global polytetrafluoroethylene resin (PTFE) production capacity in 2021?").

(2) From 2016 to 2020, China's polytetrafluoroethylene production continued to increase (see Figure 1-2), with a compound growth rate of 13.96%; in 2020, China's polytetrafluoroethylene production reached 121,500 tons (excluding foreign companies), a year-on-year increase of 38.51% %.

(3) From 2016 to 2020, the load rate of PTFE plants in China continued to rise (see Figure 1-3), and the load rate in 2020 was as high as 80.67%.
